Relying on the best of breed solutions to steer transformational initiatives within your organization

We are continuously looking at new ways of doing things, and one area in which we’ve made great strides in a positive direction is talent acquisition. In the  past, we recruited talent via conventional methods, posting open positions on job boards and waiting for candidates to come to us. Today, we maximize all of our resources to actively seek talent. Social media, LinkedIn Recruiter and our employee referral program have allowed us to build an active network from which to source potential candidates. On the management side, our strategy has also evolved. Rather than sourcing directly and solely from a job  description, the talent acquisition team now partners with the business and delves further into the organization, spending time with managers and the role’s peers to fully understand the position and what a successful candidate looks like.

Using HR solutions to improve effectiveness One path we’ve taken to  improve effectiveness is leveraging our learning management system or LMS in a variety of ways. One example is a blended-learning solution for our  external boutiques called Swarovski University. It allows Brand Ambassadors to complete a wide variety of training content on their own schedule; then  during specific market visits, they complete real-world activities and receive feedback. This approach enables Ambassadors to move through the process at an accelerated pace without compromising their learning. Another example is using our LMS to offer a wide variety of developmental skills to our internal  employees, from off-the-shelf courses on various topics, to instructor-led training managed through the system and a partnership with a local university  where employees can sign up for and receive credit for college courses via our LMS. The LMS has enabled our employees to more effectively develop themselves in exactly the areas they have targeted on their own or with their manager.

Role and responsibilities as Chief Human Resource Officer

I’ve seen the role of Human Resources in most medium to large organizations advance as a senior leadership position. We now more than ever have a seat at the “strategy” table with the executive leadership team. As organizations find their most important resource is its people, Human Resources’ views and feedback are both solicited and considered in the overall management of the business. We can help impact the bottom line through the effective motivation of employees as well as the creation of efficient process and systems that enable the business to focus on our consumer. By creating a culture aligned with our Swarovski values, we are creating an environment which engages, enables and allows people the freedom to be the best that they can be.

Technology trends impacting HR function

Social media and mobile technology is the bedrock of recruiting today. It has enhanced human resources ability to network and find top talent as well as share ideas with industry peers. Used in the talent acquisition process, social media saves time, money and resources by enhancing   the effectiveness of communications. It’s easier than ever to connect through spider-web like networks such as LinkedIn, which are available at little or no cost. And with smart phones and tablets people are communicating whenever and wherever it’s convenient for them.
